Yesterday, we emphasized that we had many hats including:
DSUA – softball umpires
DBA – basketball officials
MCSUA – HS softball umpires
The Umpire Shop – Georgia ASA Uniform dealer
In addition, we talked about the following:
- We emphasized that all umpires are independent contractors who register ASA through DSUA.
- We talked about our current web site (www.theumpireshop.com) which is probably in “construction state” right now.
- We told where we umpired, i.e. Mountain Park, Pinckneyville, Shorty Howell, Bunten Road, George Pierce, Bogan, Buford City, Collins Hill, Dacula, Bay Creek, West Walton, Criswell, and South Walton.
- We told that we umpire anything from Youth TB to 18Gold, and all levels of school ball.
- We mentioned that we always put rookies with veteran umpires.
- We emphasize that we stress “on time, every time”.
- We mentioned The Arbiter, where we assign games, keep umpire calendars, issue payroll and issue 1099”s
- We strongly mentioned new policy where we will require all umpires to attend at least 50% of our training sessions.
- We talked about the post season rec tournaments (Pre Tri-County and Tri County).
- We emphasized the fact that we require all umpires to dress appropriate.
- We mentioned that Gwinnett parks will start as early as March 8 and that Walton County Parks will start April 12.
- We emphasize the ASA Test and measures that will be put in place to insure that everyone takes the test on there own and just doesn’t show up to copy someone else’s answer sheet.
- We ask all new umpires and all umpires who had a change, to complete the registration form attached.
- We talked about the process of becoming “paper qualified” for ASA National Tournaments.
- We talked about annual dues - ASA $45 - DSUA $36.
Our next meeting is scheduled 7PM, Thursday, January 24, at Bunten Road Park. At that meeting we will discuss the “do’s and don’ts” of umpiring and we will announce a weekly training schedule for February. Our training will culminate with the ASA Test in early March.
